The Clinton Curse, or. . .The Time of Trump

Tarot cards Tarot, the fool card in the foreground.

Over the last year, Americans–and for that matter the world – witnessed the onset of a new era. I covered this to an extent in my post on Brexit  where I posited some rather dark parallels to the events of the early 20th century (https://www.moviesmarketsandmore.com/brexit-rings-the…-dis-integration/ ).

But the surprising facts of the Trump candidacy and the weakening Clinton candidacy are further evidence this trend is in full swing and gathering momentum. The reality is that populism, nationalism, isolationism and protectionism are on the way in and globalism, inclusiveness, and pluralism are on the way out.

Trump is the opposite of what has been. He is Hegel’s antithesis: unscripted vs. scripted, candid vs. obtuse, national vs. global, discriminating vs. inclusive, populist vs. political.

With less than two months to go, it appears very possible that Donald Trump will be our new president. I would go so far as to set the odds at better than 50-50 right now. I say this for two reasons:

  • The trend is in favor of the anti-candidate–the populist candidate. The trend is against the established practices of the last 30 years—all the things Clinton represents.
  • I think Clinton is doomed by a family curse. Eight years ago, she somehow lost the primary to Barack Hussein Obama. What devil did she and Bill make a bad deal with? What genie is angry that he got put back in the bottle? Something tells me she is fated to history as our almost first woman president.

Two years ago, any pundit you could name would have said that a Trump presidency was IMPOSSIBLE. With every week that passes, I’ve become more accepting of the reality that Trump may indeed win:

It is nearly impossible to pin down just what his platform is other than a backlash. Trump is the opposite of what has been. He is Hegel’s antithesis: unscripted vs. scripted, candid vs. obtuse, national vs. global, discriminating vs. inclusive, populist vs. political.

And as with most revolutions, the antithesis would be as bad or worse than the thesis.  If Trump is elected and fails—and I suspect he will do both—there will ensue a most dangerous vacuum for power.  One irony is that Sanders (another anti-candidate) could have beaten him, where I do not think Hillary will.

As the stock market guys love to say ad nauseum, “The trend is your friend.” As the Chinese curse goes, “May you live in interesting times.”

Right now, the trend is toward “interesting times.”

Why? Because of my prediction about Trump or the gloomy message that big brother has crept into every unfilled crevice?

(Note to self: make a few uplifting posts in the interim days)
